MB-310 is the exam for Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Finance Functional Consultant Associate, an intermediate certification for functional consultants. Financial management is where you will lose marks if you only know the screens. It covers financial dimensions, chart of accounts, account structures and advanced rules, currencies and revaluation, journals and intercompany accounting, cash and bank including advanced bank reconciliation, period close, consolidation and elimination, and sales and withholding tax. The August 2026 update removed cost management from the exam and made major changes to ledgers, journals, period processes, receivables, subscription billing and payables.
Who MB-310 suits
Microsoft writes the exam for someone who turns business requirements into working finance processes, during the implementation and in support after go-live. It expects a foundational grasp of accounting and how finance connects to manufacturing, retail, supply chain and service operations. In practice that means people already configuring Finance on projects, accountants moving onto implementation teams, and AX consultants bringing their skills up to date.
If you have never set up posting profiles or run a period close in the product, the exam will be hard going. The questions assume you have done the configuration, so reading alone rarely gets you through. Get time in a demo or sandbox environment and build a legal entity from scratch.
Taking the exam
You book the proctored exam through Pearson VUE and get 100 minutes. You need a score of 700 or higher to pass. It is offered in English and Japanese. If your preferred language is not offered, you can ask for 30 extra minutes. Microsoft updates the English version first and localized versions follow about eight weeks later.
Microsoft says associate exams typically cost US$165, with the price set by the country where you sit the exam, and taxes may apply. Student pricing and offers such as Exam Replay are listed on Microsoft Learn. If you fail, you can retake after 24 hours. Gaps between later attempts are longer. Book with a personal Microsoft account, because records tied to a work account are lost if you leave that employer.
Keeping the certification
The certification lasts 12 months. Once it is within six months of expiry, you can renew by passing a free online assessment on Microsoft Learn. The English version of the renewal assessment was last updated on November 3, 2025. It covers cost management, customer and vendor netting, periodic processes, ledgers and journals, and taxes. Cost management still appears on the renewal assessment even though the main exam dropped it, so keep that topic in your notes.
