Which Customer Engagement certifications can you earn today?

Three are open. MB-230 earns the Microsoft Certified: Dynamics 365 Customer Service Functional Consultant Associate. Microsoft Learn shows its retirement date as none, a passing score of 700, and an English update dated October 3, 2025. It covers cases, knowledge management, entitlements and SLAs, scheduling, routing, the representative experience and extending Customer Service with Power Platform.

AB-210, Accelerating Sales Pipelines with AI in Dynamics 365, earns the Dynamics 365 Sales AI Consultant Associate. It tests configuring Sales for AI, qualifying leads with AI, opportunity research and extending Sales. Microsoft recommends intermediate Power Platform training first, plus working knowledge of model-driven apps and Power Automate cloud flows. AB-250, Transforming Contact Center Experiences with AI in Dynamics 365, earns the Dynamics 365 Contact Center AI Engineer Associate. It covers deploying Dynamics 365 Contact Center, channels, agents and AI, work distribution and analytics.

What happened to the Sales, Marketing, Field Service and Customer Experience Analyst certifications?

They are all retired, in three waves. On November 30, 2024 Microsoft retired the Sales Functional Consultant Associate (MB-210), the Customer Insights (Journeys) Functional Consultant Associate (MB-220), which was the marketing certification, and the Customer Insights (Data) Specialty (MB-260). It folded that content into one exam, MB-280, the Customer Experience Analyst Associate.

MB-280 itself retired on July 31, 2026, and Microsoft named AB-210 as the related new certification. The Field Service Functional Consultant Associate (MB-240) retired on June 30, 2026. Microsoft's partner program named AB-250 as its replacement for partner skilling purposes. No Field Service-specific certification is open now, so Field Service consultants who want a current credential usually take MB-230 or AB-250.

If you already hold a retired certification

Microsoft's credential retirement page says a certification earned or renewed before retirement stays in the Active Certifications section of your transcript until it expires. After that it moves to Historical Certifications. You cannot renew it once it has retired, and you cannot sit the exam again. On a CV, list it with the year you earned it. Hiring managers on Customer Engagement projects still recognize MB-210 and MB-240 as proof you once passed a serious product exam. Pair it with a live certification so your profile does not look stale.

Which one should you take first?

Match the exam to the app you configure most. If you work on case management, queues, SLAs and routing, take MB-230. It is the most established exam of the three and the clearest signal for a Customer Service functional role. If you work on Sales, AB-210 is the only Sales certification left. If your project centers on voice and digital channels, or you came from Field Service, look at AB-250. AB-210 and AB-250 also count toward the AB-100 Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect Expert, which matters if you want to move toward architecture.
