Move from SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, NAV, AX, or GP into D365

Start with the skills that transfer

Experience with another business system can bring process knowledge, data discipline, testing, and delivery experience. Write down the areas you have owned.

Keep product expertise separate from general delivery skills. A familiar process can still behave differently in a new application.

SAP, Oracle, and other ERP systems

Finance, procurement, stock, and project experience can support a move into Finance, Supply Chain Management, or Business Central.

Learn the target product's configuration, data structures, controls, and supported extension methods. Avoid copying an old design without checking the new product's standard process.

A systems analyst or supervised functional role can provide a bridge. Ask which module and project stage you would start with.

Salesforce and other CRM systems

Customer data, sales processes, service operations, and adoption experience can transfer to D365 customer-facing apps.

Learn Dataverse, the specific D365 application, its security model, and solution delivery. Similar terms do not guarantee the same behaviour.

Choose Sales, Customer Service, or another defined area first. Broader CE work requires more than familiarity with one CRM process.

NAV, AX, and GP backgrounds

NAV and AX experience can provide related business and technical knowledge. Current Business Central and Finance and Operations work still needs updated product practices.

Check extension methods, cloud operations, integrations, testing, and release approaches. Do not assume an older customisation method remains appropriate.

GP experience can support finance and business process work. Treat a move to Business Central or Finance as product learning with specific differences to prove.

Build a comparison example

Choose one process you know deeply. Document the existing need without using confidential screenshots or customer data.

Study how the target product supports it. Record what is standard, what needs configuration, and which points need expert review.
