Client to partner

Business knowledge and experience of living with a system are valuable. Partner work may add several customers, billable-time targets, and changing assignments.

Build evidence of explaining your process knowledge to people outside your organisation. Ask how the employer supports the first customer assignment.

Delivery to presales

Delivery experience helps you explain what a project really needs. Presales adds buyer discovery, demonstrations, and commercial handover.

Practise a short demonstration around a business problem. State assumptions, gaps, and the work needed after the sale.

Ask whether the role has sales-linked pay and how it stays connected to delivery teams.

Consulting to ISV product work

Consultants understand customer problems and implementation effort. Product roles add prioritisation across several customers and responsibility across many releases.

Choose a repeated customer problem and explain how a shared product could address it. Include support, documentation, and maintenance in the proposal.

Ask how product priorities are decided and how much customer-specific work the team accepts.

Check the move against your needs

Compare daily tasks, learning, pay, travel, working hours, and long-term responsibility. The same employer label can cover very different jobs.

A lateral title may be useful if it gives you the experience you want. Agree the review point and progression evidence before joining.
