What Microsoft actually ships today
Start with the product, because that is what clients buy. Microsoft's Dynamics 365 Sales documentation lists agents that come with the app. The Sales Qualification Agent researches leads, decides whether they fit, and sends outreach emails. The Sales Opportunity Agent researches open deals and flags risks. The Sales Close Agent handles the sales cycle through to closing. A Sales Research Agent lets sellers question their sales data in plain language. A Recommended Actions Agent ranks what a seller should do next on an opportunity.
Microsoft describes Copilot Studio as a graphical, low-code studio for building and managing agents and workflows. An agent there follows your instructions, uses the knowledge sources you connect, and calls tools to take action. You can publish it to the channels where your users already work. Some agents can be given their own account, so they can run tasks proactively. Workflows add a drag-and-drop designer with testing and human-in-the-loop controls built in.
How this changes the day-to-day work
On a CRM project, setting up an agent is now part of functional configuration. Microsoft's AB-210 page lists deploying, managing and monitoring agents in Sales next to core Sales setup. Its AB-250 page puts self-service agents and autonomous service agents next to routing, workstreams and workforce management in Dynamics 365 Contact Center. So the consultant who configures queues and channels is now also expected to decide which conversations an agent should take, and to watch how those agents perform.
Technical roles have shifted too. On the Power Platform Developer certification page, Microsoft says PL-400 is moving to AB-400, titled Extending Microsoft Power Platform Solutions with Code and AI. The AB-620 page describes developers who connect Copilot Studio agents to Microsoft Foundry, Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, custom connectors, APIs and Microsoft Fabric, and who build multi-agent and computer-using agents. Governance work grows with all of this. Several pages name responsible AI, security and data protection as part of the role.
The new AB certifications, and what they test
AB-210 leads to Dynamics 365 Sales AI Consultant Associate. Its page links to information about the beta exam and lists 700 as the passing score. AB-250 leads to Dynamics 365 Contact Center AI Engineer Associate. AB-620 leads to AI Agent Builder Associate, aimed at professional developers and advanced builders. AB-410 leads to Intelligent Applications Builder Associate and covers Dataverse models, model-driven and canvas apps, and placing agents and Copilot features in apps and Power Pages sites.
AB-100 leads to Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect Expert. You pass AB-100 and also hold at least one associate certification from a list that includes MB-500, MB-800, MB-820, AB-250, AB-410, AB-620, AI-103 and AI-300. The Power Platform Developer page says registration for PL-400 closed on October 16, 2026, when AB-400 opened.
Skills that matter now
Microsoft's exam pages give a fairly specific skills list. AB-620 expects Power Fx, Dataverse, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Foundry and adaptive cards. It also expects working knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), MCP, the Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol, prompt engineering and REST APIs. AB-210 expects you to be able to build model-driven apps and Power Automate cloud flows. AB-100 asks architects to design multi-agent solutions across Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Copilot Studio and Foundry.
The core platform skills have not gone away. Most of the AB exams, including AB-210, AB-410 and AB-620, assume you already know Dataverse and the Power Platform, and AB-210 also expects model-driven apps and cloud flows. If you already configure Dynamics 365 well, the realistic next step is to add Copilot Studio and agent governance on top of what you know.

What you need
- Platform foundationMost of the AB exams, including AB-210, AB-410 and AB-620, assume you already know Dataverse and the Power Platform, and AB-210 also expects model-driven apps and cloud flows. AB-210 recommends intermediate Power Platform configuration training before you sit it.
- Copilot StudioFor AB-620, you should already be able to set up agents with knowledge sources, instructions, tools and topics in Copilot Studio.
- Generative AI conceptsAB-620 expects intermediate knowledge of models, orchestration, RAG, MCP and A2A, plus prompt engineering and REST APIs.
- Architect prerequisiteTo earn the AB-100 expert certification, you need AB-100 plus at least one of the associate certifications listed on its page.
- Free renewalMicrosoft says role-based certifications expire unless you renew them, and you renew at no cost by passing an online assessment on Microsoft Learn.

Questions people ask
Which AI agents come with Dynamics 365 Sales?
Microsoft's documentation lists the Sales Qualification Agent, Sales Opportunity Agent, Sales Close Agent, Sales Research Agent and Recommended Actions Agent. It also lists AI-powered Data Enrichment, which fills in opportunity data from your emails with customers. Each one handles a part of the lead-to-close process.
What is Copilot Studio used for?
Copilot Studio is Microsoft's low-code tool for building and managing agents and workflows. You connect agents to your data and systems and publish them to the channels where your users already work.
Has PL-400 been replaced?
The Power Platform Developer Associate page says PL-400 is moving to AB-400. Registration for PL-400 closed on October 16, 2026, and AB-400 became available that day. People who registered by then could take PL-400 until October 30, 2026.
What do you need for the AB-100 architect certification?
You need to pass AB-100 and hold at least one listed associate certification, such as MB-800, AB-250, AB-410 or AB-620. The list includes Dynamics 365 developer and functional certifications as well as AB builder certifications.
Do Dynamics 365 consultants now need to code?
Not to configure the built-in agents. AB-210 asks for functional skills such as model-driven apps and cloud flows. Developer-level agent work in AB-620 and AB-400 does expect APIs, connectors and integration patterns.
