Three connected roles
A change specialist studies how a project affects people and plans support. An adoption specialist checks whether the new working practices take hold.
A trainer designs learning, teaches users, and checks understanding. One job can cover all three areas, especially in a small project.
Typical work
- Identify which teams and tasks will change.
- Ask managers and users about concerns and barriers.
- Write clear messages about what happens and when.
- Build role-based exercises and short support guides.
- Review feedback and adjust support after go-live.
Skills to develop
Listening and plain writing matter. You must explain a change in terms that make sense to the person doing the work.
Learn enough of the product to demonstrate real tasks and common mistakes. Work with consultants to check that training matches the approved process.
Avoid measuring success only by attendance. Ask whether users can complete their tasks and know where to get help.
Entry routes
Training, internal communications, business operations, HR change work, and super user roles offer useful experience. Start by helping one group learn a process.
Build a short lesson with a practice exercise and an understanding check. Ask a learner where the instructions became unclear.
You can develop product knowledge through current Microsoft learning and supervised project work. Confirm that any qualification matches the work you want to do.
Employer differences
A partner may bring you into projects for a defined change period. A client team may own training and adoption long after launch.
An independent trainer must also manage course scope, bookings, materials, and updates. Use a clear agreement about access and customer-specific examples.
Career progression
Possible routes include change lead, training lead, adoption manager, or business transformation work. Senior roles coordinate several affected teams and measure lasting results.
Some trainers specialise deeply in a product or business process. Others build learning programmes or coach super user networks.
Practice task
Create a lesson for a fictional purchasing team moving to a new approval process. Keep it focused on one task.

Interview preparation
Show a sample before-and-after instruction. Explain how you would support users with different levels of confidence and access needs.
Ask who owns adoption after the project ends and how managers will support the change.
