Move from .NET, JavaScript, or Power Platform into D365

Choose the right development stack and show that your code works within the target business application.

Choose a stack deliberately

Dataverse development can use C#, JavaScript, and APIs. Business Central development uses AL. Finance and Operations development uses X++.

Your programming habits can transfer, but product behaviour and supported methods differ. Read the specific developer guides before choosing a route.

Power Platform makers may start with app design, data, and automation. More technical roles add code, testing, security, and release responsibility.

What transfers

Debugging, source control, clear code, API design, and testing provide a useful base. Experience of users and business processes also helps.

List examples where you handled invalid data, failed requests, or changing requirements. Those problems occur in business applications too.

What to learn next

Study the target data model, permissions, extension methods, and deployment process. Learn when the platform runs your code and how errors affect the transaction.

Practise with several user roles. An administrator account can hide access problems that real users will face.

For a maker moving into development, focus on maintainable solutions and controlled releases. A working personal app needs more checks before a team depends on it.

Build one focused example

Choose a small validation, integration, or business app. Use approved development access and invented data.

Write the requirement, tests, and deployment notes. Explain why you chose the platform feature or code approach.

Include a failure case. Show how another person would diagnose and recover from it.

Target roles and interviews

Look for developer, technical consultant, integration, or platform engineering roles that match your evidence. Ask how the employer supports product learning.

Prepare to explain both code quality and business impact. A short, well-understood example is easier to assess than a large copied demo.
